2/10 Illegal Drugs
In 1969, President Richard Nixon declared a “war on drugs,” calling for anti-drug policy with structures for criminal prosecutions for drug possessors and users. Today, our society still treats drug offenders as criminals, but also acknowledges that they might be victims of addiction. Billions of dollars have been spent by the U.S. government for helping bring down drug cartels all over the world, and yet our jails are still filled with people convicted of drug possession and usage. Where does the solution begin – in places like Colombia and Afghanistan or in grade school classrooms right here in the U.S.?
