2/06 Changing Nature of Work
The current downturn in the economy is redefining the nature of work in the U.S. Workers are faced with going back to work after retirement, cutbacks and complete elimination of benefits, weakening labor unions, and fewer well-paying blue collar jobs. While workers are facing a multitude of hardships, there is also some good news. It is predicted that as companies attempt to scale-back on overhead (office space, for example), more and more workers will be able to telecommute, or “telework,” which may or may not be a favorable change in the way we work.
