2/01 Energy Use
Energy is the vital force powering business, manufacturing, and the transportation of goods and services to serve the American and world economies. The United States uses a lot of energy—nearly a million dollars worth each minute, 24 hours a day, every day of the year. With less than five percent of the world’s population, we consume about one fourth of the world’s energy resources. We are not alone. People in Asia and Europe also use a large amount of energy. The average American consumes six times more energy than the world average.
