Join us as we look at the brain development disorder known as Autism. Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and affects a person’s ability to communicate and interact with others. In February 2007, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued their ADDM autism prevalence report. The report, which looked at a sample of 8 year olds in 2000 and 2002, concluded that the prevalence of autism had risen to 1 in every 150 American children, and almost 1 in 94 boys.
With the help of Dr. Tyrone Bentley from UMDNJ we'll have a more in-dept understanding of this disorder. Those who suffer from autism cannot simply be “cured,” however, autism is treatable, we'll examine the treatment out there and explore how effective they are.
Tune-in as OPEN FORUM tries to understand a disorder that has been a mystery to those who suffer from it, the parents of autistic children, and the medical professionals who try to treat it.
