For years its been written-off as “part of growing up” or something “kids just do.” BULLYING causes 160,000 children to miss school everyday for fear of being bullied. This edition of OPEN FORUM will look into this act of intimidation and the trauma that ensues. This so-called “part of growing up” causes depression, long-term trauma, and at times thoughts of suicide.
In the first part of our two series we look at the basic understanding of bullies, the bullied, and the bystander. The role of the family-dynamics in bullying is in fact a lot greater than most people think. In fact, the occurrence of this traumatic experience is not only limited to school playgrounds.
