Ayna 49-Togo
This week Saim explores the Western African country of Togo. Located along the Atlantic Ocean this region has a long history of colonial rule. Evidence of Portuguese, German, French and English influences can still be found there today. Saim spends most of his time in the capital city of Lome where the proximity to the ocean provides a great industry for its citizens. Here we get to watch a large team of fishermen pull their vast fishing nets from the water – a process that involves over an hour and a half of intense physical labor. Others then clean, grill and sell the freshly caught fish right on the beach. An open-air restaurant where local fare is prepared and served in the shade of a tall tree offers its customers authentic homemade meals. Follow along as Saim ventures outside the city to the small town of Togoville and enjoy a traditional ritual dance performed by the villagers there. Join us this week as we travel to Togo – a little-known but fascinating nation steeped in tradition and culture.
