Tourism has grown immensely in recent years, and the historic Galle Face Hotel, the oldest British built hotel in the country, boasts a storied past and has hosted many of history’s most notable figures. An elephant orphanage also draws a great number of tourists. Here they can get up close and personal with the gentle pachyderms and even give them a hand as they bathe in the river.
