This week Saim takes us along as he tours a tear drop shaped island off the coast of India. According to Marco Polo, the famed explorer, Sri Lanka is the most beautiful island in the world. The country’s highlights include Adam’s Peak, a mountaintop believed to be the first place Adam set footafter being banished from the Garden of Eden. A giant footprint at the top of the mountain is considered to be that of Buddha and is the site of yearly celebrations. Tourism has grown immensely in recent years, and the historic Galle Face Hotel, the oldest British built hotel in the country, boasts a storied past and has hosted many of history’s most notable figures. An elephant orphanage also draws a great number of tourists. Here they can get up close and personal with the gentle pachyderms and even give them a hand as they bathe in the river. A stroll through a natural spice garden and a visit to Tooth Temple in the city of Kandy top off this memorable visit to an unforgettable land.
