Saim remains in Western Africa this week in the small inland country of Burkina Faso. The former French colony, dubbed “The Land of Upright People,” boasts the region’s highest number of bicycles and motorcycles, and, due to the extreme heat, has an abbreviated work day, when, between the hours of one and three, workers take a break in order to cool off. We’re introduced to people trying to make a living in various ways, including a clothes washer, phone card and used appliance vendors, a shoe shine, and a brick maker. Saim wraps up his visit with a tour of a school for local children funded by Turkish investors. He meets the staff and the parents of the fortunate students whose opportunity to gain a superior education brings hope to the future of their impoverished nation. The country of Burkina Faso awaits you this week on “Ayna.”
