Ayna 75- Iceland

This week join Saim as he ventures to Iceland. Known as “The Land of Fire and Ice,” the country is one of stunning landscape and intriguing natural phenomena. Its nickname comes from the fact that while Iceland is covered by snow and ice for most of the year, it is also home to over 800 hot springs, geysers, and geo-thermal lakes. In fact, this combination of extreme hot and cold accounts for a large portion of the nation’s tourist industry.  Strokkur, one of Iceland’s most famous geysers, erupts every eight minutes and shoots steaming water over 65 feet into the air. The hot springs that are scattered across the landscape reach temperatures of 200 degrees and can be used to heat homes and businesses as well as generate electricity. The waters of the Blue Lagoon, a popular tourist destination, are warm enough to make swimming in thirty-degree weather not only possible, but fun and relaxing too. Saim also takes us to visit a herd of Icelandic horses, which have remained purebred since the Vikings first brought them in the ninth century. A whale-watching excursion offers up glimpses of orcas, pilot and humpback whales, and white-beaked dolphins.  For an adventure like none other, visit Iceland, this week, on “Ayna.”
