Ayna 73- Denmark

Saim takes us to the land of Hamlet this week, as he explores Denmark. His first stop in Copenhagen is to the city’s famous Little Mermaid statue. Erected in 1913, the sculpture, perched on a rock on the shore of Copenhagen Harbor, was created in honor of the story by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. Though small in size, the statue is visited by thousands of tourists each year. The winter palace of Queen Margrethe is another popular destination for visitors to the city. While there, it is possible to watch the changing of the guard and to determine whether or not the queen is at home based on the position of her flag on its pole. In a secluded part of the city lies a separate community called Christiania where people live who’d rather escape the status quo. With its own legal system and commune-like atmosphere, it’s not for everyone – which only adds to the appeal for those who live there. Saim wraps up his trip with visits to Christiansborg Palace, Stroget, and an outdoor skating rink. Come experience Denmark, this week on “Ayna.”
