Ayna 59- Tajikistan
This week Saim travels to the mountainous country of Tajikistan to learn about its traditions and customs. In the capital city of Dushanbe he visits a bazaar where he meets merchants selling trained partridges, knives and daggers, and richly embellished hand made clothing. He relaxes in the city’s most famous teahouse and joins in a wedding celebration taking place nearby. He learns that Tajik brides wear their wedding clothes for forty days after the wedding to let people know that they’re newly married, just as new parents don’t bring their babies out in public until after they’re forty days old. In the city of Shaartuz, he takes part in the annual Nowruz festival, a celebration of spring that includes singing, dancing, vibrant costumes, an abundance of traditional food, and weeks of preparation. Join in the fun, this week, as “Ayna” takes us to Tajikistan.
