Ayna 57- Mauritania
Journey this week with Saim as he explores the Northwest African country of Mauritania. The region’s mix of Arab and African culture is evident in the architecture and the customs of its people. Saim visits Nouakchott, Mauritania’s capital and largest city where the Presidential Building and the Prime Minister’s headquarters are located. The country’s dependence on the ocean is evident in its extremely lucrative fishing industry. Saim watches as fishing boats set off into the Atlantic in search of octopus, sardines, squid and grouper. Seashells also provide a raw material, as they are ground up and become part of bricks for building and pavement for roads and highways. The traditional nomadic culture of the people is alive and well and we’re treated to a tour of a canvas tent where it’s possible to relax and escape the scorching mid-day sun. Come discover another fascinating destination as “Ayna” takes you to Mauritania.
