Ayna 54- Benin 2

Saim continues his journey through Benin with a stop in the capital of Porto Novo where many of the buildings are of the colonial era and the market is full of clothing, food and crafts. In Ouidah, which long ago served as the “point of no return” for captured slaves on their way to North and South America, and is now the site of a monument erected to the memory of those people forced from their homes and families, Saim happens upon the city’s annual Voodoo Festival. The main activities take place on the beach near the monument and feature vibrant, colorful costumes, dancing, music, drum beating and singing. Kings of various tribes attend the festivities and make themselves accessible to anyone who would like to speak with them. Come along with Saim as he wraps up his tour of Benin with some of the most unforgettable experiences of the entire journey. Come to Benin, this week, on “Ayna.”
