Ayna 52- Zanzibar

This week Saim travels to the beautiful collection of islands known as Zanzibar. Located twenty-five miles off the coast of Tanzania, Zanzibar boasts the pristine blue waters of the Indian Ocean, a warm and sunny climate, and an abundance of natural beauty. In Stone Town, the old city and cultural heart of the region, Saim takes us to the Arab Castle that was originally built to fend off Portuguese attackers. The Palace Museum offers a fascinating look into the lives of the Sultans, and a stroll through the winding alleys and bustling bazaars of the town is the best way to view the exquisite carved doorways of the old homes. As tourism and fishing are the largest industries in the area, boating from island to island and sampling freshly caught seafood are common activities for visitors. Join Saim on a boat ride to Changuu Island and mingle with the ancient giant tortoises that live there. Come to a place where the air is thick with spices and the breezes off the Indian Ocean are warm and inviting. Explore Zanzibar, this week, on “Ayna.”
