Ayna 40- Azerbaijan 2

Saim continues his trip to Azerbaijanby exploring the landmarks and natural elements in the Baku area that make the country unlike any other. After a stroll along the promenade adjacent to the Caspian Sea, he heads to the Old City where the mythical Maiden Tower stands. There are many legends surrounding the history of the tower and many works of art including paintings, poemsand plays are based on these stories. Dating back to at least the 12th century, it is believed that the tower may once have stood in the sea itself. Along the hillsides outside of the capital ,Saim explores the eternal flames that are a result of gas pockets in the earth. The flames have never been extinguished and are a source of pride for the people of Azerbaijan as well as the subject of many scientific studies. Back in Baku, Saim leads us on a tour through the world’s smallest book museum and introduces us to a band made up of different types of drums. With a combination of a rich cultural heritage and unique natural phenomenon, Azerbaijan is a must-see. Don’t miss this week’s fascinating “Ayna.”
