Saim heads to the Balkan Peninsula this week to explore the South East European country of Macedonia. The birthplace of Alexander the Great, Macedonia is home to centuries’ worth of historical architecture and landmarks. While visiting the city of Bitola, Saim visits a clock tower, Ishak Mosque, and Jeni Mosque, which houses an art gallery, all relics left from the days when Macedonia was under Ottoman rule. The Ottomans’ influence is evident in much of the region as they contributed greatly to cultural advancement in the area. The tourist town of Ohrid located on a hillside overlooking Lake Ohrid offers picturesque houses and monuments, an ancient pine tree and beautiful views of the water.Saim also stops by the cities of Gostivar, Vrutok, and Skopje to geta feel for the local atmosphere.
