Come along for a solemn stroll down Honor Street, anavenue lined with trees, each one planted in memory of an Australian soldier lost during World War I. While there, check out the indigenous inhabitants of the Alice Springs Park whichis home to several locals, including the Thorny Devil, emus, kangaroos, and several birds of prey. Marvel at Standley Chasm, aseries of tall red rock walls carved out through time by flooded river water. Endless expanses of serene desert landscape give way to the small historic town of Hermannsburg, an early Aboriginalcommunity settled by the Germans in 1877. The two groups of peoplecollaborated on the structures, which still stand today, and cohabitated peacefully until the Germans turned the settlement overto the Aborigines in the early 1980’s. A nearby art gallery displays and sells native arts and crafts, including hand-painted boomerangs and didgeridoos.
