2/03 Israel

On this week's episode of A Taste From The Melting Pot, Victoria gets a taste of Israeli home cooking!   It all starts with the food processor - toss the ingredients in, and delicious dishes come out! First, it's tahini, a sesame based dip with just a few simple ingredients. And you don't even need to wash out the processor to make the next dish: fresh hummous. Made with a base of chickpeas, seasoned with a dollop of the tahini, and topped with and herb only grown near Jerusalem, this simple and tasty dip is done in a snap!    Photos and gorgeous handicrafts give a glimpse of Assi's Israeli homeland, and then, it's to the table to see what finger foods friends and family have brought!   But before eating, it's back to the kitchen - and yes, the food processor - once again! This time it yields up the dough for falafels, which are then rolled into balls and fried in a pan.   And finally, time to eat, and it's to each his own as Victoria and crew construct their own pitas from the freshly arrayed ingredients! Fresh chopped salad, lamb in phyllo dough, and sweet bread cake complete the table. This is the typical casual meal, but more elaborate feasts are also prepared for holidays like Israel's independence day celebration, Purim and Passover.
