The United States of America has been described as a giant melting pot. Some prefer to call it a big salad bowl. No matter what the metaphor, one thing is clear. The rich patchwork of American society continues to be woven from the lives, struggles, and triumphs of immigrants.

WORLD IN AMERICA is a new series that explores the challenges and contributions of people from every corner the globe as they come to call the U. S. home.

Each week will highlight a different ethnic community. Groups with longtime roots in this country and those who have recently arrived will share their stories and voice their experiences. WORLD IN AMERICA asks the question: "what does it mean to live out an identity that stretches overseas and is, at the same time, fully American?" Witness the mosaic of sights, sounds, and stories that make up this nation's present, past, and future on WORLD IN AMERICA.
